The Digital Fleur de Lis

Digital technology allows us to make some substantial improvements to the way the Scouts get information to and from you. As the flagship publication of the Scouts, Fleur de Lis was originally envisioned to be essentially a monthly publication with both digital and printed formats. But the Internet now allows us to get information to you much more quickly and easily. So, holding news items until the next monthly publication essentially makes that information “old news.”
Therefore, we’ve decided to make Fleur de Lis into a strictly digital document that is also a “living document.” This means it will be found on the Corps’s Website and it will be updated whenever updates are available. In other words, it will constantly be in the process of being “published.” Articles that allow for more in-depth coverage will be featured in Fleur de Lis, as will those that include lots of photos.
Speaking of which, the Fleur de Lis always needs Scouts photos. No matter where you are … nor what the Scouts are doing, please take pictures and send them to the webmaster@madisonscouts.org. Photos of the Scouts … photos of the staff … photos of volunteers...we need them for Fleur de Lis and will make many of them available online for others to see.
So how do you subscribe to the Fleur de Lis?
Well it’s pretty simple and takes advantage of a cool web technology called RSS (really simple syndication). At the top of the main page of the Fleur de Lis, you will see a button that says “RSS Subscribe”. By simply clicking that button, your web browser (or RSS reader) will display an index to the articles. Now add this site URL to your browser “favorites”. Your browser or RSS reader will automatically monitor it for changes. Most browsers will then provide you a visual notification when new content is added to the Fleur de Lis. Simply go to the site and read the latest articles. It’s that simple!
